About the Space Management Office

The Space Management Office at UW-Madison provides planning and management support for campus physical facilities information and space utilization analysis. These include:

  • Official facility identification and baseline data.
  • Analysis of spatial indicators for administrative purposes.
  • Room level assignments and utilization; updating continually, including annual department surveys.
  • Planning, reorganizing, and configuring space as it relates to appropriate and justifiable utilization.
  • Relocating programs, either permanently or interim, during demolition and construction projects.
  • Coordinating campus-wide space allocations among projects and timelines.
  • Planning and providing up-to-date learning and instructional environments.
  • Representing the UW's interest in real estate and leasing transactions.
  • Essential support for emergency planning and preparedness, safety, evacuation, and ADA planning.
